Hulugan Falls Luisiana Laguna
If you want an easy "chasing waterfalls" experience with a spectacular view, you might want to head to Luisiana, Laguna. Aside from the famous Pagsanjan Falls and Majayjay Falls in Laguna, there you will find at least two more worth mentioning waterfalls; Aliw Falls and Hulugan Falls.
Although I was not able to get to Aliw Falls (because I was at Hulugan falls around 4 PM and we can not push thru with it since it will be dark soon), the locals recommended to head there next time we visit Laguna. It has a different appeal from Hulugan Falls.
Trekking your way to Hulugan Falls
Going to Hulugan Falls was a spontaneous decision I made after waking up from a lazy afternoon nap. I was not prepared, at the least, to wear my trekking sandals. Big mistake!

Fairly easy trek to Hulugan Falls |
The trek there consists of rocks and soft soil with muddy trails near the river crossing. After which you can either take the long and winding trail down to the falls or take the straight incline path through. Do note, it its really steep and could be really slippery when it is raining.

We choose the Steep Descent |
This is a new experience for me, you first walk on top of the falls before you head down to the basin.

How to get to Hulugan Falls
Laguna is atleast two hours away from Manila. There are lots of ways to get there either commute or private vehicle.
Private Vehicle:
Via SLEX, use the Calamba Exit and head to Pagsanjan. From there, you turn right from Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Church in Pagsanjan. After a 15-20 minute drive, look for the San Salvador Arc on you right. If you are not sure, ask around because you might miss the turning mark.
Via Bus
There are plenty bus companies that will take you to Sta. Cruz Laguna, your gateway to Luisiana Laguna. You can ride either Jac Liner in Gil Puyat Taft Ave or DLTB in Taft Ave.
Itinerary for commuting to Hulugan Falls
5:00 AM - Jac Liner / DLTB Headed to Sta. Cruz Laguna7:30 AM - Arrival Sta. Cruz Laguna
7:30 AM - Jeep going to Barangay San Salvador, Luisiana
8:20 AM - Arrival San Salvador, register and sign in 10 pesos per head (Kapitan's House)

11:00 AM - Back to San Salvador, Kapitan's House
11:00 - 12:00 PM - Lunch / Rest / Log Out
12:30 PM - Start for Aliw Falls

- 140 Pesos - Bus from Gil Puyat/Taft Ave to Sta. Cruz
- 25 Pesos - Jeep from Sta. Cruz to San Salvador
- 10 Pesos - Registration fee
- Guide fee - depends on you. No fix rate.
Road Construction
For those with private vehicles, rejoice, you might get closer to the falls by parking in the road being constructed along the trail (Expected completion in 2016). This might be a "turn off" for mountaineers and the like, but convenient for tourist. I just hope this will not hinder the "natural vibe" in hiking to the falls.

Magandang hapon po. :) Maaari po bang mag-overnight? Salamat po. :)
ReplyDeleteHello Guys! kakagaling lang naming dun last Saturday. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for these details Sarah! Appreciate it! share the good vibes! :D
